DTF vs UV DTF: Which Transfer Do You Need?

DTF vs UV DTF: which transfer should you choose?
Choose fabric DTF for suitable textile projects that use heat application. Choose UV DTF for compatible hard-surface decoration. They are different products: do not assume a cup wrap can be heat pressed onto a shirt, or that a fabric transfer is a peel-and-stick cup wrap.
| Question | Fabric DTF | UV DTF |
|---|---|---|
| Typical project | Suitable garments and textiles | Compatible hard surfaces such as some cups and craft blanks |
| Application | Heat application following the specific transfer instructions | Pressure application and carrier removal following the specific product instructions |
| What to check | Garment suitability, print size, heat settings and peel method | Surface compatibility, application area and wrap dimensions |
| Are all blanks suitable? | No; test compatibility and follow the supplier instructions | No; coatings, texture and shape can affect adhesion |
Buying a transfer for a shirt or sweatshirt
Start with ready-to-press DTF transfers if you want premade artwork. For your own artwork, review custom DTF transfers by size. Check what the selected option contains; a product gallery is not automatically a bundle of every design.
Buying a cup wrap
Browse UV DTF transfers and cup wraps. Measure the actual decoration area of your blank, including any taper, and compare it with the listed wrap size. A nominal cup capacity does not prove that every cup has the same usable dimensions.
Does ready to press mean premade artwork?
Not always. Ready to press describes a transfer that has been prepared for application. A custom transfer can also arrive ready to press. On MakeDTF, check whether the listing asks you to choose an existing pattern or supply your own artwork. Read the premade and custom comparison.

Can I use a UV DTF cup wrap on a shirt?
Do not substitute a UV DTF cup wrap for a fabric DTF transfer. Choose the product intended for your material and follow its instructions.
